Five-team trade in the works?

08:11 AM ET 12.05 | Yet to happen this week, there may still time for Nashville to see a blockbuster. A variety of three-, four- and even five-team trades are in play at the winter meetings, mostly involving the same clubs and same principal players, according to major-league sources. The clubs: Arizona, Cleveland, Texas and Tampa Bay. The principal players: Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton, Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, Rays right-hander James Shields and, most likely, Texas prospects. One proposed deal, according to sources, would send Upton to Texas and Cabrera to Arizona, with Cleveland likely receiving a package of young talent, possibly including Texas infielder Mike Olt (Tampa Bay would not be part of that particular trade).

OK. So where does Shields go in this trade?

It said Tampa Bay wasn't part of that specific trade, but as a Rays fan, I'd love to see Shields dealt for the right return. Their offense was weak last year, and now they lost BJ Upton. They need a major piece or two for the lineup

And per usual, Dolan gets prospects in return to which more than half will turn out to be underachievers!
I hope that losing out on Victorino will show Dolan and Shapiro that no talented free agents want to come to Cleveland. They have shown time and time again that they are not willing to spend a little extra to compete for the division. They don't need to compete with the likes of NY or Boston but they can't keep going into the season with players platooning at multiple positions.

I'm a Rays fan too. I think they need to be talking to Kansas City.

The Rays nabbed Escobar from the Marlins for a minor leaguer.

Why go to all this trouble for an under achieving outfielder. We already have one of those in Nelson Cruz.

He was a spare part for Toronto. He would have been an expensive backup for them.

I think they'd be thrilled to get Myers from KC for Shields, but I doubt the Royals are going to make it that easy.

Very true, unfortunately.

I would think the Rays would want more for Shields than a prospect?

well the royals prospect MYERS its a little more than just any prospect, and the rays would get talent in return for shields not bad idea though,,,

the rangers are willing to trade nelson cruz for a top catcher in saltalamacchia, now this trade would make sense for both teams what say you red sox??

the right trade for the rays included shields and archer?? it should be mark trumbo from the halos,,another trade that would benefit the rays, it would be ROOKIE MYERS FOR SHIELDS trade experienced pitcher for a youth and talented rookie,,,

December 5, 2012  11:46 AM ET

the red sox should try to trade ellsbury for a regular starter from the rays about hellickson??this should had been a excellent trade though,,,

the royals appears to be seriously about competition and shields would revamped their front of their rotation, but then again the royals always had give that type of a impression in every winter,,,
