08:19 AM ET 12.05 | Someday, we may look back at this lockout and credit the Penguins for keeping the 2012-13 season from being cancelled. Mario Lemieux arrived in New York on Tuesday, a day in which progress between the owners and players was facilitated in large part by co-owner Ron Burkle on one side and team captain Sidney Crosby on the other. Lemieux and team CEO David Morehouse are expected to attend the Board of Governors meeting Wednesday, multiple sources said. Burkle and Crosby were described by participants in the five-hour talks as voices of reason. ... Over the past few weeks, Crosby, Burkle and Lemieux have privately discussed plans to bridge the gap between players and owners. The sources said all three had grown frustrated with the lack of progress.

Guess all that co-habitating Mario and Cindy did is paying off for everybody!
That, or Larry Tannenbaum went into that meeting and threatened annihilation should anybody decide to continue this lockout that is costing MLSE millies.

Mario and Wayne tried to avert the last lockout to no avail.
Hockey players current and former want to play.
Money bag owners just want more money.

I am not even excited at the prospect of resolution any more. It will be more of the same in 5 years.

All i see in this is the press making assumptions.

Poor ownership will want more concessions then.
And on it goes....

Yup, the Pittsburgh press is fluffing Mario and the masses will buy it. Coming soon if the two sides agree will be stories in each NHL city about how their particular owner was instrumental in making it happen.

The owners don't have to make concessions, they OWN it.

Exactly, but by that time, Most of the decent talent will no longer see the NHL as the premiere league it once was.
Hbomb is also right, the Owners will yet again cry poverty, and want the players to cut back further, but do we think that Bettman's dayss are numbered as Der Kommissar?

I have been in business (management) for many years and it simply doesn't work that way. If you OWN a car, you can certainly paint it plaid if you wish. If you own a company that employs people and those people are part of a union then a whole new set of rules/laws come in to play and all have to abide by them. Achieving labor peace is a difficult task since the first thing that erodes is trust. The owners have an obligation to their business success to garner some measure of trust from their employees, millionaires or not. Both sides have behaved poorly in this case.

Agree. And it seems to me that the ones who were meeting last night, but be the "cooler heads" trying to prevail. This particular fan is hoping they are successful, and WILL be back if they prevail.

Sheesh, I hate to give Pittsburgh any of the credit for (maybe) ending this mess. But, I must say there seemed to be an impasse until DWI came back to start posting! Seriously, I hope these stories are true. We'll certainly see, maybe by tonight. In any event.....DROP THE PUCK FOR GOD'S SAKE! And, thanks DWI!
