Insiders divided: 'Deal close,' 'could fall apart'

08:18 AM ET 12.06 | By most accounts, Thursday dawned with slightly more cautious optimism. These two sides desperately want to make a deal. That much is clear after a second day of marathon meetings, because things nearly blew up Wednesday evening but the NHL and NHLPA did not take their toys and go home. Instead, they turned the other cheek, persevered and kept at it until nearly 1 a.m. ET Thursday. And talk they did, in serious, serious form. One source in the room felt the sides could be close to a deal, though another also from the room said it would easily still fall apart when talks resume Thursday. ... Now the ball is in the NHLPA???s court. As NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told a weary bunch of reporters around 1:25 a.m. ET Thursday.

Translation: We have no effing idea what went on in there, partially because nobody is talking, but mostly because we're ESPN and talking about hockey.

Has anyone else read the entire article above? Sounds as though the owners have made some serious concessions (again) on a number of issues and the players have yet to counter. If the points discussed in the story are accurate it sounds like a decent deal to me.

Jeremy Jacobs, is that you???

I did, and if the players don't come back to the table with something reasonably close - my opion might drift more to the side of the owners.

I heard on 590 just now the players want to bring Fehr back in today, which means the owners were talking about stuff the players had zero effing clue about, so they need a person with an actual brain to come translate it for them. But Fehr and Bettman back in the room today - last chance saloon here really.

Heard and read the same this morning down here.....

The last sentence of the article sums up my feelings...

Lets hope they are right.

I'm really trying to care, but it's getting harder and harder.

If this thing falls apart, it'll be damn near impossible.
