Goodell's idea to eliminate kickoffs

10:56 AM ET 12.06 | NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently spoke with TIME and while discussing player safety offered up a new alternative to the kickoff, which is one of the more dangerous plays in football. After a team scores, instead of kicking off, they would get the ball at their own 30-yard line on 4th-and-15, where the options are to go for it (which replaces the onside kick) or punt (which replaces the kickoff). It's just an idea -- not something that's being implemented.

Goodell acts more like a Soccer Mom every day.
Why not just take all the injury risk out of the game and replace the NFL with 32 guys playing Madden on TV every Sunday?

The Time article actually states it was Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano's idea. Goodell simply brought it to the attention of the rules committee.

Eliminate kickoffs so you jus start on yer 20 each time? Then what about punts, you play pee-wee rules and just move the ball 40yrds. or half the distance to the goal.....I got a suggestion for ya Mr.Goodell.......just go away.

Assuming that most teams would punt, from their own 30, that would give the receiving team a better advantage than just getting the ball on their own 20 (how many punters average 50 yds?). It would also guarantee more kick returns after touchdowns.

A KC trainer came up with a seemingly great idea over 40 years ago: he put padding on the outside of Willie Lanier's helmet not to protect Lanier, but to protect players he tackled. It sounds like it oughta work to some extent, but I haven't heard of the NFL (or NCAA for that matter) taking a good look at this.

I'd like to see them kick off from the 35 again, the run backs are one of the exciting things in football and they have taken that away.

I'll tell you Warden Goodell, while you are at it, why don't you eliminate tackling, blocking and just flat out "no more touching"... Instead, the NFL should be played on the Wii Gaming System, that way you'll only have to worry about eye strains and possible carpal tunnel syndrome.

Goodell: "Well, nobody's talked about me in quite sometime. Let's see how I can stir the pot..." Next up: Eliminating the defense-less receiver by arming them...

Goodell should just stick to giving all the money to the owners, and stay out of football
