James Shields is not an ace pitcher worth a top prospect

04:34 PM ET 12.06 | Will they or won't they? The James Shields for Wil Myers trade rumors just won't go away and I for one am getting tired of them. Even if given the chance to make that deal straight up, I'd tell the Rays no thanks. Of course now we're hearing the Royals would have to give up Myers and something else. Walk away Dayton, walk away. Myers may never amount to anything in the major leagues, but he is a potential impact bat and one of the best the Kansas City organization has developed in their history. Trading six years of control of said impact bat for a pitcher is not a wise move. Shields isn't the ace people think he is and if the Royals are going to trade away one of their top hitting prospects for him, they may be making a mistake that ail cost them more than just money down the road.

Wow! That's some serious over estimating going on in MLB. Shields and Lester = MLB Starters. Myers = wishful thinking.

If you're the Royals you to have to realize that is the type of pitcher you are going to get for a prospect. Nobody is going to give you an established young pitcher who is under control for 3 or 4 years for a prospect who's never even stepped on a major league field yet. And in my opinion putting up thoose numbers in the AL East, Shields is an ace pitcher.

The Royals have develop a top notch farm system and are on the right track of being able to compete in their division, but the key word to them is be patience and don't trade anyway your future your time will come.

All the Royals need are two good pictures and they would contend for the AL Central title. They could either be two good Starting Pictures, or one great ace starting picture and a good closer. If it was not for two entended losing streaks in 2012, then they would have been a .500 team.

Shields for Myers straight up sounds like the right risk/reward for both teams, provided that KC wants to win in 2013 or 2014. If Moore is writing off this season, then he might look at Hellickson or maybe having the Rays throw in a guy like Colome. But then, the Rays would probably ask for another prospect...or a guy like Hosmer.
