Are the Twins continuing a bad trade track record by moving Spand and Revere?

03:50 AM ET 12.07 | The Twins are confusing people everywhere with their recent moves involving two starting outfielders. The Twins traded Denard Span to the Washington Nationals for high-end prospect pitcher Alex Meyer, but while the move gave the Twins a potential quality starter, it was also a move that appeared to clear the way for Ben Revere to take over in center field. But days after trading Span, Minnesota pulled the trigger on a deal that sent Revere to the Phillies for two more pitchers. When it comes to trades, the Twins are a little behind in class. They traded away Johan Santana when they couldn't afford him and while Santana is tossing no-hitters in New York, the Twins have nothing left on their roster from that trade. They also traded away Jason Bartlett and Matt Garza for Delmon Young, a guy they traded a season ago to the Tigers. It goes without saying when it comes to trades, the Twins are not kings of the castle.

There is a big difference between Terry Ryan and Bill Smith. Yet we not forget the Twins/Giants trade. It took a couple of years to realize how one sided that deal was.

As a twins fan i like the trades. Both wouldnt have been dealt if Ryan didnt feel there was an adequate replacement in CF. Every fan of baseball knows how hard it is to get good pitching. No doubt i hope it works out. Got to agree with sulla, the santana trade was a lose/lose for both teams.

The Twinkles have never been the same since winning the series back in the 80's. Between being in a small market, free agencies, and a very tight owner the Twinkles have to make dumb trades just to be able to compete in a weak AL Central division.

I'm not sure what point Fansided is trying to make here--the Twins once made a bad trade or two, so they should hang their heads in shame and never make another trade? They traded good young OFs for good young pitchers--my guess is they have more OF's ripening on the farm, and not much pitching coming along. Who will get the better of the trade is impossible to know at this point.
