Chargers firing Turner, Smith at season's end

08:17 AM ET 12.07 | Though Dean Spanos said he hasn't shared his thoughts, this may be the end of an era. Not only will head coach Norv Turner be gone at the end of the season, but general manager A.J. Smith will be fired as well, as the Chargers make a monumental break from an era that was arguably the most successful and most disappointing in team history. Sources said this week that [Spanos] essentially decided at least a month ago that Turner's time was drawing to a rapid close. Spanos, sources said, has more recently resigned himself to the fact that Smith can't be kept in the current environment. ... [Those] with knowledge of plans that are already in motion said it seems certain there will be no last-minute change of heart this time.

Chargers are just catching up to what most people who post on these threads have been saying for three years.

I wouldn't mind seeing Norv back in Dallas as OC, and I generally don't like recycling coaches.

Not only do they have to clean out their lockers, they should make them clean out the toilets before they get their final paycheck.

I'm sure they'd screw that up too.

wouldn't it be news if Spanos decided not to fire both of them?

Spanos picked the wrong side in the feud. Should have fired AJ Smith, but fired Marty Schottenheimer instead. How'd that work out for the Chargers? Did Norv Turner, the guy who supposedly had a better playoff record, make it out of the first round yet?

A few seasons too late, but at least Spanos is getting around to it.

The problem there is they have $6,000 Kohler toilets. These toilets are top of the line and have many bells and whistles, and the company all but guarantees a life-affirming bowel movement experience. You don't let A.J. and Norv near those. Only they could make a $6,000 crapper perform like a $50 porta-potty.

I wonder if the package deal expands to Philip Rivers- Two years ago when their was rumblings about Turner being fired , Rivers said to San Diego that if you get rid of Turner then he wants to be traded. Not that Rivers has been anything special the last 3 years- they might as well get rid of him also.
