08:25 AM ET 12.07 | The baseball world is waiting to see where star free-agent pitcher Zack Greinke lands. Dodgers people have begun to sound a bit less optimistic within the last day or so about their pursuit of [Greinke]. And although there's no evidence anything is close or decided in Texas' favor, a couple of Dodgers people even suggested that they are beginning to wonder whether Greinke may simply prefer the Rangers. But while some Dodgers people are starting to seem slightly discouraged, Rangers officials are suggesting that they are unaware that they even lead the derby and are still wondering whether their division rival Angels could pull a last-minute surprise, like they did last year with Albert Pujols.

They'll be even more discouraged this time next year if the get him.

He's probably looking for a competetive "small market" team like Texas knowing his fear of big cities.

This guy is just above average except for one great season. I can't wait to see who overpays for him. This is not CC Sabathia or Cliff Lee yet everyone is acting like he is.

Agreed. The Dodgers would smart to let someone else over pay him.

Heyman says there's a strong belief this contract may exceed the 161 million Sabathia received.

December 7, 2012  09:43 PM ET

This guy is not CC Sabathia by any stretch of the imagination.
