Ducks rep: 'It is insane to me'

08:39 AM ET 12.07 | To say Ducks winger Dan Winnik was disappointed in Thursday night's seeming disintegration of talks would be an understatement. [Gary Bettman] told assembled media that most elements of the owners' offer were now off the table. ... For now, it appears the only path to a new deal is if players are willing to accept the owners' terms. "This is clearly their boldest move they've made," Winnik said. "And to think that if everything's off the table and everything that was done since June or the first time we met is all gone, it is insane to me. That's just insane to think that any progress we made is gone because we refused to accept those contracting rights." The last-resort maneuver of union decertification might now pick up steam.

so then after all the back and forth, it turns out Dwarfus Horribilius is actually the "man behind the curtain" after all. he is a snake, and outside of a few in D.C., (yes McConnell, I'm talking to you...for one) I can think of no man alive i would like to punch so squarely and repeatedly in the head than this little troll

It's bargaining, man. Progress is made when both sides give stuff up to get somewhere. It seems pretty clear this was a session where owners coughed up a lot, and the PA thought that was the deal rather than meeting in the middle elsewhere.

Please turn off the lights before you leave! Thank you and good night!

Did you hear a reporter from Pittsburgh asked him (not verbatim) how he could justify being a Commissioner and having a lockout twice in two years? Love it! His head nearly come off!

You know? I used to not take sides in this matter, because I believe there are two sides to every story (most of the time), and the truth is somewhere in the middle. The players are now to blame. What was left on the table, and what the owners were willing to give on those two things, were not unreasonable (CBA length, and length of contracts).

To hell with the players. They will feel the backlash...hopefully.

Twice in eight years...sorry ^

but those idiotic contracts were offered by whom? And they want a long CBAA so that if revenues go up, the share doesn't, it's nonsense

I could not agree more ! Every game cheque the Players miss going forward is completely ipon their own heads. I looked closely at everything the Players are being offerred. For a tier 2 pro sports league it is amazing what they have on offer. How they can think they are entitled to more is completely beyond me.

A seven year, or so CBA is not unreasonable to me (JUST MHO), or even a ten-year one, as originally proposed, so as Burkle (I think he was the one) stated it promotes a stable NHL. Fehr says it won't represent the guys coming in/up. Okay, they propose eight or seven years. Um, no, that's not good enough for the players either.

Until Dwarf Bettman sets a drop dead date to cancel the season, this charade will continue as each side is trying to squeeze whatever they can out of this deal. If Bettman sets a January 1 date to cancel the season, then it is either put up or shut up on both sides. I will say that watching Bettman and Fehr's press conference's last night shows why both of them have a history of labor problems in their respective sports. They are both unlikeable, and I wouldn't trust either of them the second they leave the room and talk to the press. It is just sad that both Bettman and Fehr aren't even real hockey fans, yet they hold the key to our beloved sport these days.

Can some explain to me why a longer CBA isn't beneficial to the players? Every time there is a lockout they lose more revenue sharing and more rights. So wouldn't they want the expiration of the new CBA to be as far away as possible?

Fehr says is won't represent the new players, but the new players will be getting a worse deal.

Dis what happen when you hire da Fehrer to represent you.

The offer that was on the table yesterday was more than fair and I got 10 bucks that says the NHLPA apologists will spend all of today and beyond insulting the Buttman instead of discussing various points and why they think they are unacceptable. I base that one the two threads from yesterday when no one wanted to discuss the main points outlined in the full story.

Not all of the owners have been handing out stupid contracts so I think the tired old argument that the owners are trying to get an agreement that will protect them from themselves is a bit off base.
