Krzyzewski slams realignment

09:32 AM ET 12.07 | Like the old advertising line, when Mike Krzyzewski talks, people listen. So when he takes college presidents and administrators to task over conference realignment, the criticism produces waves instead of mere ripples. Basically, the Maryland move to the Big Ten has Coach K upset, lamenting and generally just sick of the new normal in college athletics. He, in a word, "hates" it. "I hate the fact that we get rid of, in our own conference with Maryland leaving, 60 years of tradition based on a decision right now because you think you're going to make more money in a certain situation," Krzyzewski said. "You give up what really makes college athletics, which is the traditions."

Not yet.

CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT SUCKS.

Here's a question for you geniuses.

Why don't they just form different conference for football only? That way they could shed the Kansas', Kentuckys, Dukes, Indianas of the world and still have them for hoops and the rest of the sports.

Have a football conference for Colorado, Washington State, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Kentucky, Duke, etc and they wouldn't have to bother with them in football.

Schools that support many sports want to have affiliations for all of their teams, not just football and b'ball. For the B1G, being able to broadcast the non revenue sports on BTN only makes sense if it is the same schools as football and b'ball.

I think the ramifications of splitting off the revenue sports from the rest of the athletic department would detrimental to the non revenue sports. You would quickly have a couple of semi-pro teams that would not want to share THEIR money with the others.

Scare they will be left out...Better hope NC doesnt want to break up

Sounds like Delaney sees sixteen as the optimal number (saw a quote from Sparty AD Hollis to that effect). Krzyzewski can count, and figures there is no room for Duke in the B1G, but there will be room for UNC.

How hypocritical! What did he say when BC, Virginia Tech, Miami, Syracuse, and Pitt moved to the ACC?

It's like George Orwell' book Animal Farm. All traditions are equal, but some are more equal than others.

UVA and NC would likely be the 2 schools...Believe the SEC would love to have NC as well...

Hey now, I already started that rumor. Still think it fits.

Probably the same thing, but no one bothered to air it.

Seeing that Coach K is one of the highest paid in college BB, maybe he should tone down the rhetoric about choosing money over tradition.
I don't see him turning back some salary to Duke; it is about money in these revenue producing sports in college and he needs to stop biting the hands that made him wealthy!
A bit hypocritical it seems.

I know...its the only 2 that make sense for the BIG...Or maybe UVA-Syracuse...

May be UNC & GA Tech. By taking Maryland the BI6 10 already got the D.C. market so UVA has nothing left to offer but tap water weak football and basketball but kick ause soccer and lacreosse.
