11:48 AM ET 12.08 | Robinson Cano, represented by agent Scott Boras, could leave Yankees for free agency after 2013 season, sources tell Daily News. According to two industry sources familiar with Cano's situation, the Yankees' Gold Glove second baseman may very well bolt the Bronx once he becomes a free agent. "I don't think he???ll be with the Yankees beyond next season," one of the sources told the Daily News. "He's not giving them a hometown discount, and they seem to be more interested in keeping their payroll down than winning." Although Cano, who attended the celebrity golf tournament sponsored by David Ortiz this weekend at the Dominican Cap Cana resort, told the Daily News that he would "love" to remain a Yankee for life, he also added: "I know this is a business. . . . It's up to them."

If the Yankees don't want him, there will be a long line of teams that do, and Boras knows it.

He's only 29 (although a Dominican 29, so plus or minus a few), so a seven year deal doesn't sound unreasonable.

He is a supreme talent. Is there a guy who makes the game look so easy?
However - I would caution against a monster deal with this guy. His motivation has been questioned in the past - simply put, not the hardest worker in the beehive. Another thing - and I don't know how he escaped the beating that Swisher and A-Fraud took in the dailies - but he absolutely CHOKED in this year's postseason. Horrid numbers. Embarassing. Until his clutch numbers start improving (in regular season and playoffs), he is not true superstar.

Actually, he's reported to be 30 years old so he will be 31 when he's a free agent.

Life long Yankees fan. Love this guy. If what Yanks offer isn't enough so be it. It's only baseball. Then the Yankees can just start fresh in a couple years and just spend on others who'll take their money. I don't think this new era of Steinbrenners will be like the old and just get any has been for so much money. Look at this offseason and what teams like the Red Sox and others are doing throwing away money at has been stars. Ridiculous. I don't think the Yanks will fare worse in acquisitions in the coming years.

Maybe its an Eff-Ewe to Cashman and Girardi after the way they hung him out to dry this season. If you don't want the player trade him, bench him or waive him...don't feed news to the fishwraps to embarrass him and turn the fans on him. 100 million or not, a guy reaches his limit when his own team goes out of its way to slap him. Maybe now he'll take his sweet time healing up and they can pay his salary while giving playing time to some incompetent like Nunez.

if the yankees need to reduce their payroll, then they most let high tag priced players walk away sure its important to get good skilled and experienced players in your roster, except the contracts are a little too stiff to handle, best options for the organization and franchise?? turn down any obstakle in their contract agreements!!!

the owners and GM need to understand the meaning of business but at the same time they need to know when enough is enough!!!
