Come on, SI. Start telling us how Josh Brent was just a misunderstood underdog.

Jerry was thinking of how he can keep Brent out of prison and get him back on the team next year.

Yea, because we all know what a good solution prison is for all the major social issues. Out of sight out of mind. Solves everything.

Shouldn't be hard to keep him out of prison. If Brent gets a halfway-decent attorney and keeps his mouth shut in court, he should walk out of it with probation.

It's possible he'll get inpatient alcohol treatment, but most likely he'll just have to go to classes for 6 months to a year.

I'm not sure how the league handles a case like this. The NFL may have additional sanctions for him, he may end up with a 1-year ban or something. I can't recall a case like this, though I'm sure there have been some.

Sounds like it came straight from the bereavement section at Hallmark dot com. Does anyone think JJ wrote that?

Not sure about your state, here its 15 days in jail, 90 days house arrest, 1 year loss of license, after 1 year an akcohol lock out breathalizer must be installed in every vehicle, 1500 plus 100 per month for 1 year. Some absurd fines etc. Not really toothless

Vehicular homicide is a crime, not a social issue. He was old enough to know better and he should receive the same punishment anyone else convicted of manslaughter would get.

I'll assume you're talking about the penalties for a garden variety DUI, IE; no reckless conduct and no accident/injuries/deaths.
