Last chance for Sanchez?

07:33 PM ET 12.08 | After subpar 2011 seasons at the quarterback position, both the Jaguars and Jets made moves to help the position. The Jaguars signed former Dolphins starter Chad Henne to back up Blaine Gabbert and the Jets traded for former Broncos starter Tim Tebow to back up Mark Sanchez. Neither quarterback situations have worked out as planned. For the Jaguars it's one of the many reasons why the team is 2-10 and eliminated from the playoffs, but in the race for the No. 1 selection in the 2013 NFL Draft. The Jets haven't been quite as unfortunate and still have a chance to pull themselves into contention. To do so, though, the team will first have to go and take care of business in Jacksonville.

After hearing some news on his contract status, I doubt this is the last hurrah for Mr. Sanchez. If I'm not mistaken, the Jets are on the hook for a 8.5 million guaranteed, whether he plays or not. I say they keep him one more year, maybe even with Rex Ryan as the coach.

The next Brady Quinn.

Jets fans better hope so.

Some other team might work out a trade deal where the Jets pick up something like half the contract. Or, if Sanchez has confidence in himself and thinks he can start somewhere, maybe he asks for a trade and offers to renegotiate his contract as part of the deal.

If I had 8.5 million guaranteed, though, an I was a certified clipboard holder, I'd take the money.

Or....suppose they traded him to Seattle for Flynn? The Jets get a better quarterback, perhaps, and the Seahawks get a cheaper backup.

Mark Sanchez interview:

Coach: Well, you know, Mark, we're all set with a starter and even a backup, so you won't be at the top if you join us.

Sanchez: That's OK, Coach. I know how to start at the bottom.

For $8.5mil there's not much I wouldn't be willing to do
