Collins' patience for Bynum wearing thin

07:58 AM ET 12.10 | Through mid-November, Doug Collins sang the same tune when it came to Andrew Bynum. [Collins] would say something like: "Nobody wants to play more than Andrew. He's working so hard, doing everything he can." ... Bynum, who is making $16.5 million in the final year of his deal, is playing for his next contract. A maximum deal could net Bynum as much as $100 million over five seasons. Collins would also point out that injuries cut short his playing career and say he never questions when a player says he's hurt or in pain. But Collins' public mindset seemingly began to change Nov. 18. ... So what happened? One theory is that with each of Bynum's numerous setbacks, Collins realized the chances that Bynum won't play at all this season kept increasing.

It's very understanding of Collins to react to Bynum's situation, but is it fear? The league knew about Bynum's knee situation, on the other hand, Bynum should have not had the procedure that Kobe had performed applied to his knee so late during the off season. Maybe Philly should have payed more attention to Bynum's conditioning during the off season; Phil Jackson and the Lakers organization did a good job of keeping a close monitor on Bynum. The guy have millions and he's a kid at heart; you have to keep a watch on him. Philly is grinding out wins and where's Bynum?

Truth: Agree with this comment or not... A bad attitude (mindset) always affects the physical body. Stick a fork in him, he's done! This is what the Lakers organization knew and got rid of him.A corrupt mind will always result in a corrupt body.

Were they not awake the last five years? How could anyone be surprised at this? Joggin' Andrew hasn't changed in attitude one bit. I predicted this, along with a lot of other people, before he was even traded. Injury, announce a return date, triple that time, add another six weeks to get into shape while he Jogs up and down the floor, and come playoff time, he's pretty effective. Problem being, on a lesser team than the Lakers, the season's over by the time he's ready.
Joggin' Drew is what Joggin' Drew has always been and will always be, and anyone who invests in him gets exactly what they should have expected... and anyone who invests a max contract in him, and some fool will, has demonstrated just how much of a fool they really are. Caveat emptor, fool... even the Romans knew that.

Sixers have a history of trading for damaged goods. After a while you just can't feel sorry for them. The good news is that they are only married to Bynum for this season and then his 16 million comes off the books. The question becomes, can they get a big man who will play for them?

The only good news to make us Laker's fan happy so far this year:
- BUMYN IS NO LONGER OUR PROBLEM - what a relief.
I'd rather deal with (or deal) the bricking supergoofer.
Good luck Doug, you will need it ;)

And after this season, some team run by idiots will offer Bynum a new contract worth tens of millions of dollars. I wouldn't be that shocked if some team offered him the max deal. Will be very surprised if he signs a deal worth less than $50M.

Bynum will never be healthy so there is no point depending on him to help lead a team.

My team was fleeced for this guy. I hope he can come back next year so the trade wasn't all for nothing. Sixers may be able to get him for cheap during the summer.

The incredible thing is that some idiot GM will give Bynum an $80 million deal after this season.

Don't you have to be playing to be playing for you next contract? Even with all the Lakers troubles, this looks like one of the best trades they ever made.
