Schumaker a goner, Dodgers interested?

08:02 AM ET 12.10 | When the clock ticked louder for Jim Edmonds in St. Louis, the Cardinals gave him a business-is-business nudge out of town. Now comes the case of Jared Michael "Skip" Schumaker. He is no superstar. He is 32 rather than meandering into the twilight of his career. Yet Schumaker has roots that run just as deeply within the organization as did those of Edmonds. And, like what occurred with Edmonds five years ago, the time has arrived when team and player recognize it is time for Schumaker to play elsewhere. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak acknowledged during last week's winter meetings that he was seeking to trade Schumaker. ... [Mozeliak] is diplomatically saying Skip's "a goner." The Los Angeles Dodgers, prodded by new hitting coach Mark McGwire, have interest.

Yeah, good guy, true professional, great Cardinal. Definitely filled a role many times for the organization. If he is traded, I wish him well.

I have a different view of 55. This man needs to think the man upstairs everyday that the Cards let him hang around for years in helping him make a good living in the bigs. You will see what the Cards get in return for him when he is traded, maybe a B line prospect.

Yeah, that part's hard to see. They were going to keep Castro as a utility player, not sure why they would want another. Maybe the "interest" is confined to McGwire putting in a good word for his buddy with his bosses.

So we aren't going to get Kershaw for him??
Seriously, I understand what you are saying. He was borderline much of the time, but he usually did have a decent OBP and batting average. Never could hit LHP, though.

He's done his job here. Now it's time to move on. I wish him luck; I'm sure he's not on the roster by spring training.

Schumacher was an okay player, but nothing special.
He might be okay for someone off the bench.
