08:05 AM ET 12.10 | Is the clock already ticking on Zack Greinke? If you think [Greinke] just signed a big free-agent contract, wait three years. He might get an even bigger deal then. Greinke's six-year, $147 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers includes an opt-out clause that enables him to return to the open market midway through the agreement, major-league sources say. Talk about perfect timing: By the time Greinke is eligible for his second round of free agency, Clayton Kershaw, Felix Hernandez and Justin Verlander already will have signed new deals. ... Greinke's new $24.5 million average salary is a record for a pitcher on a multi-year contract. Kershaw, Hernandez and Verlander are virtually certain to push the standard into the $30 million range.

In 3 years, the Dodgers will be wringing their hands wishing that it was a team opt out.

Did they learn nothing from the Yankees in giving out these opt out clauses?

Who, by all accounts, now have the highest payroll in baseball. It was a good run, but I'm glad the Yanks are passing the torch.

Boy the Dodgers are spending all kinds of money these days. I think they must have received huge government grants because they said they were going to manufacture and install solar panels when they weren't playing ball.
