Texas Tech calling Petrino or Davis?

08:08 AM ET 12.10 | On the face of things, leaving the Big 12 for the Big East these days might not be everyone's first choice. [Tommy Tuberville] left to cash a fat check, and be comfortable for a program that is desperate to hang on to a winning head coach (the previous three all left for better jobs). Now is the time for Tech to make the right hire after the Leach fiasco. The first call has to be to former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino. That or former University of Miami, North Carolina and Browns head coach Butch Davis. Both come with a loooot of baggage, but both would be eager to get back into the game and grateful for an opportunity like this. ... Neither of these guys is clean and there is a certain risk element attached to both, but the upside could be significant.

I am quite surprised that a coach left the Big 12 for the Big East.

Lubbockites are still miffed about the Leach fiasco. They were very direct with Tubberville in letting him know they were disgusted with the way the admin dealt with Leach...even though it was no fault of his.

FWIW, TT did a pretty decent job there.

The Slap may have been a turning point for Tubbs' future at TTech, and not for the better. I still don't understand that, Tubbs was never the high-strung type, and that whole incident seemed wildly out of character for the guy. Straaaaaange.

some of my west Texas family thinks that he left because he knew he couldn't meet the expectations next year. Some of those delusional fans were expecting a conference title in 1-2 years.

Tougher now that their whipping boy aggy is no longer on the schedule :)

I was shocked by this entire episode. He wasnt great, but hey they were competitive for half of the last two seasons. :-)

Leach got 10 wins, the fans and admin got spoiled, now they want it back!
