New Falcons stadium coming?

02:31 PM ET 12.10 | The Georgia World Congress Center Authority boardunanimously approved a non-binding term sheet for a new downtown stadium for the Atlanta Falcons. The term sheet sets a foundation for a more serious stadium agreement between the GWCCA and the Falcons. The plan calls for a stadium with a retractable roof, and the total cost of the project is projected to be around $1 billion. According to the term sheet, part of the stadium's cost would be paid by the hotel-motel tax in Atlanta and Fulton County, which would account for around $300 million; the Falcons would be responsible for the rest. The Georgia Dome would be demolished, and the new stadium would be ready for the start of the 2017 season.

Funny how other teams have been trying to get a new stadium since before the Georgia Dome was built and are still trying.
Now there going to replace it.
I have heard the place is horrible but you can say that about all domes.

This is how it's done in 'Merika today. Get the poor to pay for crap the rich own so they can make even more money. I would go along with a new Dome if the tickets for ALL events were passed out in a lottery. You want someone else to pay for it than you shouldn't be allowed to profit from it.

Are you kidding me? This place is only 20 years old, it seats over 71,000. Why in the world do they need a new building? This is just crazy.

Read the article. The city's share is coming from a hotel-motel tax. That's not going to gouge the poor, it's going to gouge tourists and business travelers.
And after the stadium is paid for, they will keep the tax and use it to buy votes. Got it? That is the 'Merikan way.

Ok, say the Falcon's *want* a new stadium. The city goes to the Falcons and says: "Ok, here's the deal - you get a new stadium, we( the citizens ) get a) ticket price reductions, b) car park changes, i.e., charge by car, not people in car; c) price cutbacks in refreshments sold at said stadium; d) no fancy enclosed boxes executives want to watch the game, then you sit on the same seats 'we - the public' sit on. The issue is that it was built right before the modern stadiums... it was sort of the last big round boring concrete stadium. Everything since has had more personality, more amenities, more attraction to the stadium itself. Blank has been trying to build something new since he bought the team.

Then let Arthur Blank build it himself. He has got plenty of money. The Georgia Dome is an excellent facility. The only problem (which is common to most similar facilities) is that is not in the "most friendly" part of Atlanta.
