08:07 AM ET 12.11 | To the fans at Gillette Stadium on Monday night, of course, there is no debate that Tom Brady is the MVP favorite. [Brady] would be The NFL MVP except for two things: 1. Peyton Manning returned from what many in the NFL believed to be career-ending neck surgery. Included in this doubt were his Colts who released him this offseason. He returned to be really, really good, Manning-level good and lead the Broncos to the playoffs. As a result, many have his name already penciled in as MVP. 2. We are talking about Brady and, for whatever reason, we tend to overlook consistent greatness when figuring year-end awards. ... This MVP is coming down to Manning vs. Brady, which is delicious considering how many great battles these eventual Hall of Famers have allowed us to be bystanders to over the years.

If AD gets 2K, I wouldn't exactly count him out of the race.

AD should be the MVP whether he hits 2k or not. He's all that team has, everybody knows he's getting the ball, and still he just runs over and through the defense. And all that after coming back from major knee surgery in record time.

I'm mostly trying to get people to spit coffee and ruin their keyboards, but improving the vocabulary of our constituents is a secondary goal.

Why don't they just call it the best quarterback award and be done with it?
