08:13 AM ET 12.11 | Coming off a weekend blockbuster, Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore didn't exactly get the benefit of the doubt. [Moore was] furious Monday afternoon, livid at the accusations, and trying to keep a calm demeanor on the telephone. He pulls off the Royals' biggest trade in two decades, giving them a shot at their first playoff berth since 1985, and he's read that he made the blockbuster deal simply to save his job. "To me, that's insulting," Moore tells USA TODAY Sports. "That's very insulting. Very, very insulting. I don't get too bent up about criticism, and I want to take the high road here, but that's insulting my integrity. If something happened, I couldn't get another job in baseball? Is that what people think?"

I wouldn't offer you a job simply because I think Dayton is a foolish first name.

The GM was going to lose his job anyway after next season if he didn't make a major move on the 13 Royals to try and help them make the playoffs.

This guy needs to grow a set. You're in the wrong business Drayton if you can't take criticism. And to think this guy almost came to Boston? That media would have torn him apart.

All he managed to do was spray lighter fluid on the fire.

Technically speaking, your skin has to turn a color, like dark blue, to be considered livid. Perhaps pi##ed off would have fit the headline better.

Royals and playoffs haven't been used in the same sentence since probably last year when it was commonly said "The Royals are not even close to making the playoffs".

Tactical error by Moore to react with anger to an opinion piece from a guy who couldn't keep his baseball job and now works for ESPN. He should have just smiled and said "Trying to keep my job by improving the team and giving us a better chance to win? Guilty as charged! That is the job description for every GM in the league."
