Kershaw to become a $30M man?

08:16 AM ET 12.11 | Where else could the Dodgers spend money? With Zack Greinke set to draw an average salary of $24.5 million over the next six years, some baseball executives and agents are wondering whether Clayton Kershaw could become the first pitcher to earn $30 million a year. At 24, Kershaw is five years younger than Greinke. He's also considered a better pitcher. ... Kershaw is heading into the second year of a two-year, $19-million contract. He can't become a free agent until after the 2014 season. But the closer the left-hander moves to free agency, the closer he could move to that $30-million-a-year mark. So with Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu now signed, the Dodgers plan to approach their ace in the near future to talk about a long-term contract extension.

Stay In LA, Bro.

The obvious comment here is "$30m for a pitcher is ridiculous".

But what's the point?

No that he will be crying poor anytime soon, but $30MM in California is like $15MM in most other states. Got to love the entitlement mentality.

Aparently, viewed by monetary standards, entertainment is the most valued assett in the world.

Greinke had a huge benefit from being a FA in a seller's market, but Kershaw has been consistently very valuable...hasn't had a killer season like Zack's Cy year, but Greinke hasn't been near that level since. I'm sure Kershaw would command much more than Zack if they were both on the market this season.

Kershaw is far better than Grienke.

He will look good in the interlocking NY and pinstripes.

Yanks probably not going to make a splash until they get under the cap for one year.

Kershaw won the Triple Crown in 2011 when he went 21-5 with 248 K's and a 2.28 ERA. He has had 4 straight season with a sub 3 ERA. I would say Kershaw is a Tier 1 pitcher and Grienke a Tier 2 pitcher. He will be the richest pitcher in Baseball history!

Think the Dodgers will have blown all their money by the fall of '14?

Not with a $6B media contract about the kick in....

Yeah, not until 2015...(Verlander!)

I can see that. Justin will be 32 by then, with around 2,000 innings under his belt. I think the Yankees should throw 6 years $160M his way.

Is Obama running the Dodgers because they are spending money like theyre expecting a bailout if it collapses?
