Oregon law complicates Kelly succession plan

08:17 AM ET 12.11 | In the eyes of many, Chip Kelly has one more game in him on the Oregon sideline. Many also believe the Ducks then would promote offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich. That would continue a successful formula for Oregon, which hasn't gone outside for a head football coach since Rich Brooks in 1977. But it's not that simple. Not anymore. Promoting Helfrich without interviewing a qualified minority candidate -- or, at least making a good-faith attempt to find a qualified minority candidate -- would be against the law in Oregon. ... Sam Sachs, the Portland activist who led the successful fight for the law, said university administrators can't ignore it by asserting they must make a quick, emergency hire.

It seems odd to me too. However, ESPN is reporting it as 100% likely to go to the NFL

.
"They still have to interview a qualified minority candidate," and You should be judged professionally on merit, and be given an opportunity to rise in your chosen profession as far as your skill, intelligence, guts and drive can take you.
It's not happening for minority coaches in major college football.

How many former NFL assistant coaches were hired as HC in the NFL and didn't make it??? For every former college coach that failed as an NFL coach, there is one former NFL assistant coach that has also failed!!
