In bowl game, FSU guaranteed to lose (money)

08:18 AM ET 12.11 | Even before playing the game, the Seminoles have suffered a bowl loss. [Their] showdown with Northern Illinois hasn't been a hot ticket. "The secondary markets got a lot of Orange Bowl tickets on it right now for a lot of different reasons," said FSU Assistant Director of Athletics for Media and Public Relations Rob Wilson. "It's important to us that our fans buy through Florida State because we have a financial commitment to that, so we've cut our tickets in half." The 17,500 tickets FSU had to sell originally ranged from $225 to $75 but, in order to try and limit the damage of slow sales, the university is now offering tickets from $112.50 to $37.50. Even if FSU sold all 17,500 tickets, [FSU] is still guaranteed to lose money with the discounts.

Yep...and if those bowls can't make it without forcing schools into guarantees, they should fold IMHO. They are lining the pockets of a few fat cats at the expense of the schools. Sounds like the United State Congress doesn't it.

I agree, excpet this isn't a lower-tiered bpowl, this is the BCS....friggin Orange Bowl.
Auto-qualifiers have to go. Let the top 10-12 teams play each other in the BCS bowls.....all the LSOP can fight over the rest of them....if you don't like it, don't watch. If oyu want to play in a BCS, step up and beat them.

It's a sign of the times. A bad matchup, during a recession, and FSU fans already disappointed they aren't playing for the Championship when they thought they had a chance.
