08:23 AM ET 12.11 | A hockey story has become a political football in Michigan. House Democrats on Monday threatened to derail legislation sought by the Ilitch family as part of a project to build an arena for the Detroit Red Wings in protest of controversial right-to-work legislation set for a final vote Tuesday. Minority Leader Rich Hammel said his caucus plans to vote "no" on a bill that would allow Olympia Development to tap nearly $13 million in downtown development authority tax funds for a proposed $650 million mixed-use district comprising a multipurpose events center along with retail, office and residential housing space. "They will vote 'no' on the Ilitch project," said Hammel, D-Mount Morris Township.

This was highly informative. I am now fully aware of why the minority caucus (Wtf? isn't everything R or D down there?) is voting against the arena.

Apparently there are a few "independents" too. :)
