08:04 PM ET 12.11 | Dallas Cowboys practice squad linebacker Jerry Brown was tragically killed in an accident earlier in the week, when his best friend and teammate made the decision to get behind the wheel of his vehicle drunk. Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter and now has to live with the fact that he killed his best friend with one tragic mistake. While many will speak poorly of Brent for his decision, the family and friends of both men understand their close bond and know that there was never an ill intent. Both men made the conscious decision to enter the vehicle and it had a horrifying ending. Brent has been devastated as he deals with the tragedy, but Brown's family could be the key to him finding inner peace. They have publicly forgiven Brent and it showed on Tuesday. The family of Jerry Brown asked that Brent attend their son's memorial services on Tuesday and the Cowboys nose tackle attended the services with the family of his best friend. Brown's mother, Stacey Jackson, asked that Brent ride with her to the services. That simple question will likely go a long way with Brent's healing process.

Looks to me like they're all handling it like mature people who know the men and the story behind the headlines. Must be so disappointing for the media.
My best wishes for both.

Made a lot of stupid mistakes when I was his age, only difference is I got away with them. No figuring that. Glad to see how they're all handling it.

This!! About 20 years ago I quit driving after having even 1 beer. I still will not drive after any alcohol, but I will get in a car with a friend driving that has had the same or more. If my friend kills me, it's my fault and I don't have to worry about it. If I killed him, I don't know if I could handle it. Then there is the whole other issue of killing some innocent bystander, which you don't think about under the influence, even as a rider with an impaired driver. I wish I was smart enough to just arrange for a professional ride when I drink. Or, just quit drinking outside the house. None of it is good.

Well said! We all make bad choices in life. Sometimes we end up lucky, and sometimes there are tragic consequences.

Drove after drinking a hundred times and have been lucky that I didn't hurt anyone (myself included). Learned my lesson before I did something stupid. Tragic situation but the family have been as supportive as possible. Best wishes to all of them.

The League has to suspend players at least 2 Games for driving under the influence, the team should be able to add to that. If that was in place maybe it would help prevent tragedies like this, this is sad! A couple of buddies going out and whopping it up and having one pass is a horrible nightmare!

Alcohol destroys critical thinking skills, that's for sure. Anybody who's woken up to a date he brought home from the bar the night before, whether he drove her there or not, probably can attest to that.

If drunks could think clearly, DUI wouldn't happen every night in every city and town.

I heard they have sober cabs for any NFL player out there. This should not have happened.
