A look at the Arizona Cardinals collapse

08:12 PM ET 12.11 | There's an old saying in football that says no matter how bad a team is, they always get up and play their hardest in games against division rivals. Apparently, the Arizona Cardinals never heard that saying before. Or they did and just didn't care about it. Whatever it is, the Cardinals should be absolutely embarrassed for last Sunday's performance against the Seattle Seahawks. It's one thing to lose big on the road, it's another to not even show up to play which is essentially what Arizona did last week. The Cardinals are a far cry from the team that surprised a lot of people and started the season 4-0. They have lost nine straight games and have an offense so anemic that a Pop Warner team could seemingly shut them down. But before we look at this unbelievable string of losses, let's look at just how they managed to start 4-0 in the first place despite being so bad. It's not like the Cardinals just started playing poor during the season, they've been bad since week one. In the first four games, the Cardinals, despite being out-gained by an average of 357-271 per game, somehow outscored their opponents approximately 23-15. They hit the 100 yard rushing mark once, and passed for more than 200 yards twice in their four wins. So how did they win anything?

At 4 - 0 earlier in the year... they had us believing....

Well, no they didn't. From drafting Beanie, hurt every year, to trading for Kolb, and not getting a QB that didn't look scared to death every play, most Card fans took the wins, but deep down knew the bubble would burst, just like last year, the year before.......

Not much to look at. Cards were viable until Kolb went down. They were 4-1 (?) at that point. Besting Belichick & Brady anywhere, anytime, doesn't happen on a fluke. Lose your #1 QB in this League and everything changes. Even the defense will start to show the strain.

Something about finding a nut? And a blind squirrel? C'mon, Coach Wiz, help me out here...
Somehow, this wretched excuse for an NFL franchise managed to get Kurt Warner and Fitz on their squad at the same time. That was an anomaly. Their 4-0 start this year was, also.
There is no collapse, only returning to form.

I must admit, though, that when they had players Coach Wiz was able to do something with them. He might be a guy worth looking at for a team that's dissatisfied at HC this season and is looking for a change.

They suck, but they aren't comical. They need to work on their delivery. Take a lesson from Buttfumble Sanchez, and perfect those Three Stooges slapstick moves to get to the next level.

Just don't let Wiz anywhere near the QB. He's not showing symptoms of the Kolb virus, but he's definitely a carrier.

I think Kolb got that from Andy Reid, and brought it with him to Arizona.

One of Arizona's wins was against Seattle, at home, in Russell Wilson's first career start. Wilson is playing better now.

With that terrible offensive line, the Cardinals were living on borrowed time this season, and everyone knew it. Their starter gets hurt, Kolb plays well until he gets hurt, and now they can't seem to kee a QB on the field. Even when they were 4-0, people were shaking their heads and predicting they would not win another game with that lack of OL protection.

Really, how can you not take a look at the Cards' collapse? It's like a bad car crash. You can't help slowing down to rubberneck a little.

Seattle will be the wild card unless San Francisco loses their remaining 3 games (Pats-Seahawks-Cardinals.)
Still, they may be the team to beat in the NFC this year. Every other playoff contender is sputtering right now.
