Story behind Mendenhall's suspension

08:04 AM ET 12.12 | The Steelers handed Rashard Mendenhall a one-week suspension, which will keep him from Sunday's game in Dallas for what the team called "conduct detrimental to the team." The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has learned that Mendenhall did not show up for the game Sunday at Heinz Field against the San Diego Chargers after his coaches told him he would not be active for it. Even though the inactive players cannot play, they usually join the Steelers on the sideline unless injuries prevent them, although not in uniform. Mendenhall, the Steelers' No. 1 draft choice in 2008 and their feature back the past three seasons, has had a difficult year, mostly because of injuries. He lost his starting job two weeks ago and has not dressed the past two games after being demoted to third string.

Apparently the rest of the Steelers failed to show up for that game too.
The offense didn't show up until the 4th quarter and the defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd down.

He's a FA after this season. So the Steelers may as well show him the door early.

cut him, see if you can get a 6 pack of warm budwiser for him, if not just change the locks on the door.

The career of an NFL running back, on average, is very short. Sometimes it's the knees, and sometimes it's just stupid stuff like this.
Have someone look up "Adrian Peterson" for you, Rashard, and read it to you. It's not going to help your career at this point, but at least you'll understand where you went wrong.

The Steelers don't tolerate drama. Apparently Mr. Mendenhall is a bit of a diva and I'm sure Mike Tomlin isn't real impressed.

First Jacobs and now Mendenhall. Makes you nostalgic for the good old days of TO and Ocho.

Do the teams rules specify that inactives have to be on the sidelines?? If not I'm pretty sure the players union is gonna have s field day with this...

My guess is the team had the right to suspend him, or they wouldn't have done it.
In any case, filing a grievance is not the way to get yourself back into the good graces of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
