Dickey frustrated, Mets 'not happy' how it came up

08:11 AM ET 12.12 | R.A. Dickey brought something slightly less than a cup full of cheer to a recent holiday event when the subject of his contract came up. "In the context of the market you want what you think is fair," Dickey said at Citi Field, where he helped distribute gifts to school children. ... "There is a surprise sometimes when things don't get done quickly and you think you are already extending the olive branch. But at the same time they have a budget to adhere to, and that is part of it, too." According to a team official, the Mets are "not happy" that Dickey used yesterday's holiday party as a forum for an airing of grievances. The Mets continue to explore trading Dickey, but haven't made headway in convincing potential suitors.

A reporter asked him the question. He answered it in an eloquent way. If the mets didnt want him to talk about the contract in that context, they shouldnt have invited the reporters. Heaven forbid they can do a charitable event without broadcasting it to the world on how great they are for doing it. What ever happened to performing charity for the sake of charity rather than public relations?

These are the Mets. What do they need with a 38 year old Cy Young winner anyway? The best they are going to offer him is a "Thanks for Nothing" contract at best. Trade him to somewhere where he can help for a couple of years

This is beginning to get ridiculous.....is the Madoff issue behind them or not??...obviously it's not...all the feel good hoopala about signing David Wright is going right out the window....the money he is asking for is below market standards and their still balking.....they are sending a loud and clear message to all future free agents.."We are cheap ****...if you wanna play here be prepared to not get fair market value"......MLB and Selig are cohorts in this abortion...the Wilpons and Katz should have been made to sell the team.....

It sounds like Dickey is handling the situation better than the Mets are.

Seems like the Mets are handling this worse than R.A. is. If they don't want him to talk about his contract then either keep him from events where there are press, or sign him! R.A. is a class guy, and the Mets are looking more and more like a classless organization.
