Will teammates shun Hamrlik?

08:18 AM ET 12.12 | Scott Hartnell took the occasion of a Tuesday radio appearance to send a message to defenseman Roman Hamrlik. Speaking on The Team 1200 in Ottawa, the Flyers' forward said he wonders if Capitals teammates will back Hamrlik up this season. Recall Hamrlik, who is 38, ripped the NHLPA and executive director Donald Fehr in a Czech interview last month. Some interpreted Hamrlik's remarks as a sign union membership was getting antsy with the lockout and Fehr's tactics. "I can't wait to see what his teammates do when guys go after him," Hartnell said on Tuesday. "To sell the PA under the bus and to stick up for a guy like that is going to be hard. I think [Troy] Brouwer said it best in his comments." Hamrlik said he and Brouwer have cleared the air.

I said this before, he's entitled to his opinion, no matter how boneheaded it may seem to be to the average layperson. Will his teammates back him? They should, even if he doesn't agree fundamentally with the process, he has that funny thing called this Freedom of Speech. Now will that translate into his teammates actually making life miserable for him? They can do that too, do I think they will? Quite possibly, but it would only precipitate a fall for the Capitals, and with Ovi hinting he might not come back to North America, do they really want rancour in the rank and file?

Scott Hartnell has bigger things to worry about like showing up for big games in the playoffs when his team really needs him. He looked like a S.J. Shark last time around.

I'm sure if Jeff Carter were to speak out about anything, Hartnell would be very, very quiet.

Or why Jeff is busy talking Scott is getting busy at Jeff's house

there's really nothing wrong with what Hamrlik said. Others might disagree with him, but there's nothing wrong with throwing out a p.o.v., especially since he's been in the league for 50 years.

Scott should hold a position in the NHLPA.............call it Director of Player Comments. Apparently he feels that the players merely be subject to the same rules as ownership.......nobody can speak except the Dwarf. In this case Fehr(s) or folks with contracts exceeding $100 milllion.
