08:18 AM ET 12.12 | If one sets aside the spin and looks at the facts of what appears to be on the table, it gets harder not to see some light in the tunnel. What do you see? I see a deal, or at least a path to one. I see a negotiation that should be in its final stages when the NHL and the NHL Players' Association resume talks Wednesday, with federal mediators rejoining the process. I see no excuse -- none, nada, zero, zilch -- for the season to be canceled. I see no hills on which to die here, not anymore, only the point of diminishing returns. Is there any battle left to be won that is worth the sacrifice of the season? Of course not. Which is why some teams are quietly telling staffers to get ready.

I would like nothing more than the on and off-ice staff back to work so I can give them the work they obviously want.

So, if they are telling their people to get ready, should we? I would still say no. someone, player or owner will take a dump on the current proceedings, mediators or not, and we will be back to square one in January.

Sorry, bud! But all I see is a whole bunch of nothing. Show me the money! 'cause in this case, seeing is believing.

I actually came across a facebook thread where I learned that Gomez has somehow managed to actually put up points in the ECHL...and in addition some ridiculously delusional Habs fan was trying to make the argument that Gomez is actually a good player and that his under-achievement is the fault of his colleagues and the franchise...needless to say I took a big **** all over that thread and did my best to ruin their day.

What, are the whispering/ or doing that stupid thing that football coaches do, and putting a piece of paper up over the mouth so no one reads the lips....

That's a little hard to believe. Scott Gomez is playing in the ECHL. He might have finally found a level that he can compete on.
