08:21 AM ET 12.12 | In terms of player health, the lockout isn't all bad on Broadway. If the NHL opens its season in January, the Rangers' previously ailing big guns will be healthy and ready to rock. Marian Gaborik (offseason shoulder surgery), Rick Nash (aggravated groin) and Carl Hagelin (shoulder) all would be available for an early-January training camp and start to the season, the Daily News has learned. Nash (HC Davos, Switzerland) and Hagelin (Sodertalje SK, Sweden) sustained injuries while playing in Europe during the lockout but have returned to the United States to rehabilitate. Hagelin has been back since early November. Nash returned late last week. ... [Gaborik] had surgery for a torn labrum on June 6 but has had more time than anticipated to heal.

When age is a factor an extended off-season, no matter the source is a boon to any athlete. This comes as no surprise to me really, another team that benefits in my mind, are the Detroit Red Wings, almost the same scenario with an older roster.
If January comes to pass as the beginning, which I highly doubt, it'll be a dash to the finish... and for once teams can't and shouldn't moan about their best guys being beat up all season long. Especially if they played elsewhere.

So, the lockout is good for a team because their players who got injured during the lockout playing for other teams might return to full health? Huh?

Don't you just love the logic of the New York Daily News? Almost as good as the Toronto Sun.

This rests entirely on the presumption that a deal gets done & the season isnt cancelled. The Rangers are probably the team that stand to lose the most (from a hockey perspective) if they lose the season. By the end of next year they will have some serious pay raises to hand out and it means that they will definitely have to ship off some guys. Their window is really this year.

Many teams start out fast, then fade. A short season could be in old Van Patricks words-intersting.

Said it before, the Leafs, and Lord Irk of Bay, stand to benefit from a cancelled season more than any other team in the league.

Good for Sid too; nobody has rung his bell for months. However the buddy shots with the Penguin ownership may cause others to have a gag reflex.
