02:54 PM ET 12.12 | The Dallas Cowboys will clear defensive tackle Josh Brent's roster spot, according to a report from ESPN.com's Ed Werder. According to Werder, the Cowboys will place Brent on the non-football injury/illness list, which lets the Cowboys replace Brent on their 53-man roster. The move also allows Brent the opportunity to access the team's facilities and receive support from the Cowboys organization.

What took so long?

Anticipating jail time?

" the Cowboys will place Brent on the non-football injury/illness list..."

I'm not sure that particular off-roster list is appropriate here. I don't recall that he sustained any injuries in the accident that would prevent him from playing. Doesn't the NFL have an "In Trouble With The Law" list?

I will drink to that!

This guy's in some deep ****. Apparently this isn't his first drunk driving offense, and he'll no doubt be charged with vehicular manslaughter at the very least.

Can't these guys drink in moderation?

Brent is a basket case and a write-off for the Cowboys. He has a heap of trouble ahead of him, and JJ needs a DT to rely on. It sure ain't Jay Ratliff, either.

Anthony Hargrove is available now.

And if they can't, why not call a cab? They can afford it!

At this point, the feeling by all (NFL, NFLPA & the Cowboys) is that putting him on a "suspended" list which would keep him away from the team would be detremental to the kid. Probably best to have him associated with the team until such point that he is stable enough for the "Conduct detrimental to the league" tag which would bar him from any contact at all.

They are probably using the "alcoholism is a disease" argument, being he has a prior DUI.

He has a self imposed life sentence of Guilt, I wouldn't want to be in his shoes! That was his Best Friend in the car!

December 12, 2012  05:29 PM ET

I seriously doubt the authorities can punish him any worse than he will torture himself over his friends death, but he has a lot of pain and trouble coming, I am glad the Cowboys organization is there for him.

Yup... this is going to be his albatross from now on.
