Phillies offer may not win over Hamilton

08:11 AM ET 12.13 | The Josh Hamilton sweepstakes appear to be heating up. [Hamilton] and the Rangers have continued to stay in touch, and while the Mariners and others are showing interest, rivals suggest they believe the chances of Hamilton staying with Texas have increased in recent days. The Rangers haven't replaced Hamilton in the lineup, and while he has other suitors, it's unclear whether he's getting outside offers anywhere near his seven-year target. ... The Phillies reportedly made a three-year offer to Hamilton, according to Philadelphia radio station WIP, and while Philly GM Ruben Amaro has a reputation for luring the big fish, it's still hard to see Hamilton leaving Texas for a three-year deal.

The longer he waits the more it seems likely that he'll be returning to the Rangers.

Maybe Philly could sweeten the deal with a few eight balls?

I keep hearing 3 years for Hamilton. I wonder if a 4 year offer gets it done.

I still say the Rangers will be better off down the road if they trade for Upton sign AJ as their everyday catcher and still have money left to get a middle range pitcher.

I think you are correct. He's running out of places to go.

If Texas wants him so bad, and he wants to stay in Texas so bad, and it looks more and more like 4 years gets this done, why hasn't he signed back with Texas? Something doesn't smell right.

It's starting to look like he's Plan B even in Texas...
He'd be a nice addition to the Phils, but I'm not holding my breath that a deal gets done. At 31, an injury prone player, especially with the significant amount of baggage Hamilton is carrying, is a huge risk on a long term deal. Is his production reward enough for that risk? If he's breaking down on a fairly regular basis at 31, what will he be like at 35 or 36?

Choosing Philadelphia over Texas would be a really poor decision. In Texas he is loved, in Philadelphia he'd be booed (those are the same "fans" who boo Santa Claus and cheer when players suffer career ending injuries). More importantly, Philadelphia's day in the sun ended in 2009. The team has been declining since and doesn't look likely to return to championship caliber anytime soon.

Give up on the booing BS already...
If he plays hard, the Philly fans will love him...
The Santa thing happened 40 years ago and if you look it up, it was piss drunk idiot who was flipping the bird to the crowd. He made a mockery of Santa, that's why he was booed. As a Philly fan, I won't defend cheering for Michael Irvin's injury. It was a poor showing that day by the fans in attendance. I won't support cheering for an injury.

I think, based on this showing of intelligence (or lack thereof) and flawed logic, we can conclude the opposite of what you think to be the most accurate.
Players who give it their all, are loved much more in Philadelphia than almost anywhere, especially Arlington **** Texas.
The bottom line is, that this pre-conceived notion that Philadelphia fans are drunken neanderthals is never going to go away, and I'm fine with that. The joke is on you though, because not knowing what is real and what is not is real is something you should be very worried about. I pray for your sanity.
Cheers.

I think you are correct about Ryan. I would love to have Hamilton on the Phils, for no more than 4 years. This is most likely wishful thinking I admit. Apparently the Phillies value their 1st round pick at 16 and the pool of money that comes with it are too much to risk 4 years of Hamilton at $28 mil per year.

Thanks for the dollar figure.
Just think - when Hamilton's deal is finished, there will still be four years left on Pujols' contract.
