Four teams 'serious' about Dickey

08:14 AM ET 12.13 | Yes, it was reported that R.A. Dickey irked the Mets this week, but they're not about to send him away for nothing. The industrywide expectation is the Mets will try to resolve the situation by the end of this week. General manager Sandy Alderson hinted at that on Tuesday, when he said he expected clarity on Dickey's status within a few days. According to an industry source, the Mets consider four teams as "serious" potential trade partners. What defines "serious" at this point? A willingness to include one top prospect in a deal for Dickey. Nevertheless, the Mets aren't budging from their position of seeking multiple highly rated prospects in any trade for the Cy Young Award winner, and haven't yet found a team willing to make such a deal.

He won't duplicate last season but he's good for double digit wins. Mets should keep him.

Buyers have the edge with this deal. Can't see to many big name prospects going to the Mets. If they don't trade him by spring training, it could become a distraction in the club house.

You are not going to get top prospects for a one hit wonder knuckle ball pitcher with a lot of mileage on him.

There isn't any free agent starting pitching out there .....I think the Mets will get the return they want from somebody ....

Disagree worst case scenario for the Mets is he's still a Met for $5mil next year....and if he gets out if the gate quick he'll still be very tradable....

Joe Blanton got 2 yrs and $15MM. I repeat Joe Blanton who is at best a #5 starter 4.5-5.5 ERA Innings eater.
Dickey won the cy young and can be locked up for 3 years and ~ $30MM. ($5mm for 2013 plus the extension he is asking for ~26mm for next two years.) It is correct to say he will likely not win another cy young but the guy was a solid #2 starter for the 2 years prior to last. Assuming you get somewhere in between the two versions of Dickey he is a bargin and one worth at least one if not two top level prospects.
Mets will sign him or trade him but either way they win unless they cave in the trade.

Dickey's a good pitcher but I think he's overvalued based on one great season. He's a 38 year old who has had a decent career (not a great one). Aside from last year, he's never been an ace, I wouldn't give up my top prospect for him (let alone two).

Disagree - a proven #2 starter with upside to be an ace is worth at least one if not two top prospects - remember not every prospect is Mike Trout. As far as his age goes 38 for a knuckleball pitcher is like 30 for a traditional pitcher. I would not give more than 3 years but 3 years is very reasonable.

CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that Sanchez and his agent are seeking $90 million over six years. The Tigers didn't come close to that in what might have only been a starting-point-type offer.
Per Heyman, the Tigers offered Sanchez a four-year deal worth $48 million. His agent told the Tigers that this offer "would insult" his client.

There are two things that you takes when you have the chance - pitching and catching, because there isn't enough of either to go around.

Be that as it may, Sanchez is:
1) a free agent
2) a starting pitcher
3) "out there"

Dickey should go with the flow!!! If not signed by Spring Training, then he should gamble on free agency!
