Applewhite still faces significant hurdle

Combined with Harsin's spread-offense principles and liberal use of misdirection/trick plays, the Longhorns were an improved offensive unit in 2012. But the 'Horns still have issues at quarterback, as David Ash could not sustain his strong start to the season. The sophomore certainly continued his development this fall, but he continues to have trouble with red-zone turnovers. ... With Ash and [Case McCoy] coming back next year, it is imperative that Applewhite get better play from both signal-callers. Because unless Connor Brewer proves that he could be the answer in spring and preseason camp, the 'Horns may have the same issues at QB.

Fix your defense and most of this goes away. Fix it not, and no matter how much better Ash or McCoy play, you still lose 4-5 games.

Not being too big of a homer, but they are still one of the youngest teams around. As JK said, if the D can play to their potential, all is good. If not, its 2-3 place.
The O played well when Ash was healthy. And they return, what, 9-10 starters?

I feared that UTx would miss Harsin. "Gweed" seems to approve of Applewhite taking sole control of the OC duties. Anyone (with knowledge) care to break it down? Contributions? Strengths/weaknesses? Pluses/minuses?

apparently they're switching back. Jones has said he's ditching the 3-4 and going back to the 4-3. If Dooley was still there they'd be running the 5-6-2 defense.

I would definitely take a redshirt sr who is 23 over a true soph that is 19 :)
I think skills are fairly similar.
