Weis' juco dream team at Kansas

08:16 AM ET 12.13 | This much, Charlie Weis can guarantee: Job openings. As dismal as 2012 was for the Jayhawks, a home-run recruiting class might be the only way for [Weis] to make KU a winner in his second season. That urgent need has Weis hitting the community college ranks to assemble a group of juco all-stars that, if all goes right, could make an immediate difference at KU. ... No school in the Bowl Subdivision can advertise more job openings for juco players than KU. Weis made this a central part of his recruiting pitch, encouraging prospects on recruiting visits to visualize themselves on the field in place of KU's existing players. That pitch resonates with junior college players, most of whom have two years to contribute at the D-I level.

Heavy, heavy Juco recruitment is a road to disaster. They HAVE to come in right away and produce or it is a waste. I wish there were numbers somewhere on the viability of 2 year Jucos and how many pan out. I bet the numbers would be surprising.
Of coourse, every coach thinks he'll be the one that picks all the good ones.

Agree. They are real good to plug in where the needs are due to injury, defections and down right screw ups on recruiting in previous classes.
On the upside, you've only made a one or two year mistake. (But a lot of schools process their mistakes out in the first year anyway so the upside for that is less.)

If you watched many KU games, you could tell they were almost there. 2-3 JUCO starters could get them to a bowl game.

"I'm Coach Weis. If you come play for me at Kansas (and I don't eat you), there's a good chance I'll scapegoat you and replace you with juco imports."
Great strategy for recruiting from the high school ranks.

UTk did just the opposite. There first game was their best one. Had I known that early on, I could have just watched that NCState game and then quit for the season. Would have saved myself some serious time and heart trouble.

I did, but you did not listen. I told every Vol fan, UF was coming with bad intentions.
