08:20 AM ET 12.13 | Soon, Mike Eruzione will sell just about everything that made him famous -- including his white and blue jerseys and the stick he used to score against the Soviet Union -- and he was recently asked why. Eruzione: It's something I've thought about for the last couple of years after hearing Paul Henderson sold his jersey from the 1972 Summit Series for $1.2 million. When I heard that, I thought, "Wow, what a great opportunity this is to sell my memorabilia and give some money back to my family, my kids, my grandson." I've got some ideas with what I want to do with the money. I will be more specific closer to the auction. Fortunately, I don't need the money to help me. ... I'm not broke! I'm not doing this for my own purpose or gain.

people with nhl owner type money need stuff to buy to show everyone just how much money they can waste. Meanwhile, the same guy that can drop 1.2 million on a jersey will think nothing of cutting some staff the minute their numbers drop a couple points.

Eruzione's winning goal against the Soviet Union has become one of the most played highlights in American sports, and was voted the greatest highlight of all time by ESPN viewers. That's been sold over and over, so how much would a Goaldiggers jersey be worth.

Well, I threw some of my sheyet on eBay a few years ago and was amazed to see some very wise investors step forward. They saw the great opportunity and potential and were most happy to give me their cash for it. I'm sure that stuff is collector's items by now (as is collecting dust in their basements and garages).
What a great country this is. You know what they say, "If you have it, somebody needs it."

It is a great movie though and it was a great game. One of the things I actually remember well and always brings a smile. I had surgery some years ago and some friends of mine got the DVD and had it autographed by Eruzione as a get-well gift. Must have worked 'cause I got well and had to go back to work. Sigh. I won't sell it though. :-)
