08:17 AM ET 12.14 | The question continues to arise: How close? We keep saying the two sides are close. Many players, agents, governors, coaches, lawyers and pretty much everyone outside the key figures on both sides of the NHL lockout apparently believe it to be so. But is it true? Is a deal within our grasp or is it merely wishful thinking from a group of people dumbfounded as another season appears ready to go off the labor cliff? Well according to at least one top-level executive on the owners' side of the table and a number of key players and agents, yes, the two sides are close. How close? One NHL governor provided ESPN.com with the framework for a deal he insisted would be palatable to both sides.

More babble about "close". When someone announces a deal is signed tell me. Otherwise keep the stupid gibberish to yourself. Negotiating between "one NHL governor" and ESPN.com is meaningless garbage.

Close, as in "Close as a lingerie shop without a front window"?
I agree on all fronts Slappy, get the deal done, then talk about the ramifications, until then shut up and put your noses to the grindstone.
Does anyone actually read anything on ESPN.com?

They are arguing over our money. They are all so greedy. Don't be one of Bettman's sheep

And not just ESPN.com...if they aren't talking about football...and even then it's dubious...they are way out of their depth. ESPN knows even less about hockey than Bettman does.

I could have furthered the point as well, Most sports pundits like fluffing their particular favourites and hope they stick, like poop to a blanket, but seriously they aren't any different to us, apart from the salary. Just noise and conjecture the majority of the time.
ESPN and Hockey is like oil and water, they'll never mix.

ESPN wants the league to negotiate and compromise? That's silly, don't they know Bettman's take it or leave it approach. He's been doing it for a few months now.
