08:07 AM ET 12.14 | The Red Sox were busy Thursday, agreeing to terms with Ryan Dempster and introducing Shane Victorino, who himself agreed to terms the same day Mike Napoli did. [But] as the Sox introduced Victorino at a news conference at Fenway, Napoli was still in limbo, his deal reportedly held up by some medical issues that came to light after he took his physical. Napoli had agreed to a three-year, $39 million deal on Dec. 3 and underwent a physical days later in Boston. In the past, Napoli has dealt with calf and shoulder issues, both of which the Red Sox knew existed. But according to an industry source, the Sox saw something in the physical that was previously unknown to them. Several reports have speculated that there was an issue with Napoli's hip.

It seems to be an extension of last year. The Angels want to be the new Yankees, the Rangers are missing out on "loyal" players, and both Boston and New York are getting cheap.

A hip issue is a real concern for a player expected to fill in as a catcher for 30/40 games during the season.
May not be as much of an issue for a first baseman, but not at $39 million for three years.
Red Sox are looking for another 1st base option perhaps?
