Tigers dueling with Cubs for Sanchez

08:08 AM ET 12.14 | Will he stay or will he go? The Tigers were jousting late Thursday evening with the Cubs in a bid to sign right-handed pitcher Anibal Sanchez, according to national reports. Sanchez, 28, had become one of the hotter free-agent tickets after last weekend's signing of prime-time starter Zack Greinke by the Dodgers, and was weighing a Tigers bid that might exceed the five years and $75 million reportedly being offered by the Cubs. Sanchez came to the Tigers in a July trade and delivered precisely what the Tigers had sought as they tried to reinforce their starting rotation ahead of their ultimate place against the Giants in October's World Series. The Tigers had been insistent they hoped to bring Sanchez back in 2013.

You're right, they'll no doubt have to dig deep. Especially when you know that by then they'll be trying to outbid the Yankees by that time and maybe the Dodgers will still be spending too.
