The Big East basketball tournament in Madison Square Garden was always a must-see event because of the teams and the talent on display. It will never be the same IMO.

Nobody on either side is likely to be compelled to cooperate with the joint investigations by Duke and NCAA Enforcement into how then-senior Thomas paid 30 grand for bling in 2009, with nearly $68,000 more in credit. Especially since a confidentiality agreement was part of the settlement.
Nobody with a functioning brain needs a formal investigation to tell us that this deal smells funny. Like so many other things that just seem to happen in college sports, it doesn't pass the smell test.

Their on the right track, but it won't be just 8 teams. You can almost automatically throw in Dayton and St. Louis (maybe Evansville and Creighton, too). You could even conceivably add Notre Dame, since they want to keep their football program independant. ESPN was reporting that it could be as many as 21 schools, but that's too many for one conference. There are plenty of good-to-great private schools with strong (non-football) athletics programs in the Midwest and Northeast. It would be one heck of a gauntlet to run through for a season, though.
