09:25 AM ET 12.15 | According to a report from KRISTV in Corpus Christi, Texas, the Phillies have agreed to a three-year, $18 million contract with reliever Mike Adams. The report cites a family source. Adams was born in Corpus Christi and attended nearby Texas A&M Kingsville. Adams would bolster a young Phillies bullpen that struggled for the better part of last season, providing it with a legitimate and experienced set-up man for closer Jonathan Papelbon. Over eight seasons, Adams owns a 2.28 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. The 34-year-old went 5-3 with a 3.27 ERA last season with the Texas Rangers.

It's odd to see a team that has been as successful over the past few seasons as the Rangers see so many defections. They've lost out on all of the big name free agents as well. Not sure what to make of it.

What to make of it? Think about who they lost, and why.
Hamilton? They didn't want to go to five years. Other than Arte Moreno, no one else did either.
Napoli? Part-time catcher who's numbers came back to earth last year.
Dempster? He sucked with Texas.
Adams? He had arm trouble.
Young? Old. Dealt to Philly.
Greinke? The Dodgers overpaid.
They haven't made any moves other than adding Soria, which is probably a smart play.
They still have money, they still have lots of talent, they still have trade chips such as Olt, Andrus, Moreland and others.
Big, splashy moves don't win championships. Look at Miami and the Angels last year. I think the Rangers will be fine.

I am sure it is all good for Phillies fans, but I think they would want to hear about the signing of a run producer with home run power instead.

That does sum it up. The LA madness has less to do with winning on the field and more to do with winning in the press as the flashier and sexier team to follow.

I disagree. They have been one step away from winning the World Series. They lost their most dangerous and popular player in Hamilton, a respected veteran clubhouse leader and go-anywhere player in Young and versatile C/1B option in Napoli. Between the three, that was about 260 RBI that just left the building. They certainly have done anything to improve their team and ready them to make the next step up.

But, similar things could have been said about St. Louis last year after losing Pujols. Keep in mind that Carpenter also was not a factor for the Cards.
I think they did okay.
Texas is not going away. The Rangers are smart, and won't back themselves into a hole.
There's a reason why they've had a good run the last three year.

Hamilton was certainly very important in that run.

Hamilton will miss 50 games next year for the Angels, Young will hit .225 and Napoli will be a part time player.....The Rangers got younger.
