Latest legal moves endangering entire NHL season?

10:30 AM ET 12.15 | Their labor negotiations stalled, the N.H.L. and the players union traded legal jabs on Friday, moves that raised the chances that the entire season could be canceled. The legal maneuvering echoed similar steps taken by the N.F.L. and its union last year. The league ultimately came out on top in those cases, but the two sides settled before any games were lost. The stakes are much higher for the N.H.L. and the union because the league has canceled 42.8 percent of the schedule, including the All-Star Game and the Winter Classic. The legal wrangling could move the fight between the two sides into the courts, consuming what is left of the season.

Didnt Don propose a voting within his own ranks to decide to decertify or not ?? From what i've read thats what i got.....he just essentially telegraphed the PA's possible future move to the NHL and the NHL ran to court and beat them to the punch.

Please don't do it! Try alternative sports. Try following bowling on ESPN, or poker.

Poker? Yikes! Where is my sword?

If the PA wanted to do this and not negotiate don't you think they would have done this months ago like the NBAPA and the NFLPA?
If they really wanted to do this, don't you think they wouldn't have LET IT LEAK?

What the NHL did, was absolutely nothing. Is it going to help during negotiations? Probably not, because you know, you need to actually NEGOTIATE.

Everything I read, even from the people who think this was a good move, say this doesn't help the NHL with the negotiation. So great, they filed something first. This won't stop the PA file if they still want to in another state.

Me thinks it was a threat tactic by Fehr to the NHL to induce more negotiations...but..im no lawyer and from what ive seen on interviews the party that goes to court 1st gets the upper hand...bur who knows........but this stinks..its now gone into the world of the law.

December 15, 2012  11:36 AM ET

This is just another move by Bettman to insure that there will be no NHL season this year. Its becoming increasingly obvious that he doesn't want them to play.

Here is a quote i read today. The chances this resolves the lockout is 0%. Every lockout where they went to court, it did absolutely nothing.
So great, they get the upper hand in the court system. What does the court system have to do with the current CBA? This will help in no way at all.
If this would help, don't you think either the league or the PA would have done this a few months ago?

Conflicting reports it seems....hopefully the reports ive seen are wrong then and yours are correct...or maybe i just interpreted the reports wrong.

This entire thing is now a true stale mate.

SIGH.

The reports i read were sadly correct..check out the www.TheHockeyNews.com website.....the 1st 1 that gets to court is not really correct but where they file is their goal..a court sympathetic to the lock-out.....meaning the battle against the NHL just got more up-hill.

Right, once the courts get involved this thing could last even longer. Lawyers=fishfood.
