Will Angels hire accountability partner for Josh Hamilton?

10:36 AM ET 12.15 | There are enough red flags in Josh Hamilton's on-field dossier to make the Angels' five-year, $125-million investment in the slugger seem dubious. But the biggest risk in signing Hamilton is an off-field blotter that includes years of drug and alcohol abuse, several relapses and public apologies to his wife, Katie, and teammates, and the constant battle with the inner demons that can fuel such addiction. When Hamilton got sober in 2005 and reached the big leagues with Cincinnati in 2007, the Reds hired Narron as an assistant hitting coach. Narron followed Hamilton to Texas in 2008, serving four years as an assistant hitting coach and Hamilton's chaperon, advisor and confidant. The two had adjacent hotel rooms on the road. At home, Narron and his wife socialized with Josh and Katie. Narron sometimes took control of Hamilton's pocket money to reduce temptation. "I encourage people who may question Josh to give him a chance and support him, because his heart, his intentions, are in the right place," said Johnny Narron, the Milwaukee hitting coach who served as Hamilton's "accountability partner" for five years in Cincinnati and Texas. The Angels won't announce Hamilton's signing until Saturday, so it is not known whether they'll hire an accountability partner, "but I'm sure Josh's agent will discuss that with the Angels and do whatever is necessary," Narron said.

Nothing wrong with accountability. If that's what Josh needs to stay on the straight and narrow, do it.

josh hamilton most take responsability while away from

December 15, 2012  11:17 AM ET

December 15, 2012  11:24 AM ET

too many injury prone-players in halos roster,,,

December 15, 2012  11:25 AM ET

the halos miss out on greinke availability..

December 15, 2012  11:26 AM ET

the dodgers could surpass their payroll but everything its well worthed...

December 15, 2012  11:27 AM ET

vernon wells shoiuld be traded,, or trade trumbo for top pitching,,,,

December 15, 2012  11:30 AM ET

josh hamilton would have tough job to do at the angels team, not because does not who have discipline at the plate, but the results are IF dodgers signed top players the halos its compesate the big signed plyers in dodger town...

December 15, 2012  11:31 AM ET

how to add those two top starters in anaheim??either mark trumbo or peter bourjos would have to be traded,,,

December 15, 2012  11:35 AM ET

angels rotation its completely devastated, and what team can compete only with offense?? where is the good pitching?? and who should replace santana/haren/greinke?? angels need to work really hard IF they are interested in winning a championship....

December 15, 2012  11:37 AM ET

angels would need to add a better pitching coach/
a better hitting coach only IF THEY ARE interested in winning now!!

December 15, 2012  11:38 AM ET

The Halos are now betting on two long shots finishing their contracts at a high level and still producing.

December 15, 2012  11:38 AM ET

halos could have the best offense,,but if the same hitting coach remains the offensive could falter even more than before!!!

December 15, 2012  11:40 AM ET

the team could be missing the quality in the chemistry,, the catcher spot has been reduced to a bunch of ashes plus their regular catcher still learning how to call a game,,,,

December 15, 2012  11:41 AM ET

should the angels trade for ryan hanigan from the reds?? WHO knows things would be more centered than with eiannetta!!

The Angels were third in the AL in runs scored last season. Their starting pitching ranked fifth. The Angels problem last season (which they still haven't addressed) was their bullpen. They ranked 12th in the AL in ERA in relief and led the AL in blown saves. I guess they're hoping the Hamilton acquisition will just help them score enough runs to make the bullpen irrelevant.

their rivals in the same state/city. los angeles , the dodgers are well armed with so many tough players/ pitchers and hitters would be tough to beat them,,,

December 15, 2012  11:45 AM ET

both teams would do their best at their own stadium, and who would get more wins in their own league???

agree, they need a closer or all these moves may be irrelevant. But then again so do the Tigers. I can see a bidding war brewing between these two teams for Rafael Soriano.
