Blue Jays boast loaded rotation with R.A. Dickey

05:51 PM ET 12.15 | The New York Mets and Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey are $6 million apart on a contract and instead of forking over less than $10 million, the Mets are nearing a trade agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays that would flip the knuckleballer for a package of prospects. The bottom line is that this trade is happening and it's happening soon. Not only will it mean a fourth Cy Young winner will be starting his follow-up season in a new uniform, it will be the second time in 20 years that the Blue Jays have acquired a Cy Young winner in a follow-up season (the Blue Jays acquired David Cone in 1995). But more than that, the Blue Jays have seismically shifted the power in the A.L. East after making a mega trade last month to acquire Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson and Jose Reyes. Next season, the Blue Jays could have a lineup that has Jose Bautista, Jose Reyes, Brett Lawrie and Melky Cabrera as well as a rotation of Johnson, Buehrle, Brandon Morrow, J.A. Happ and R.A. Dickey.

Just as well. Sticking with the Mets would be a waste of talent anyway

As opposed to the 2 time World Champion Toronto Blue Jays? (And within the last 20 years, no less!)
As a Jays fan, I love an underdog (and hate the Yankees), but the Mets have just become kind of a joke. I think they need a change in ownership to rejuvenate them, much like the Dodgers did.

I hope his 2012 season was just some sort of bizarre blip in his career, and not the norm going forward. Guy was freaking terrible. Went from being our Ace, to potentially fifth in our rotation in 2013, if the Dickey deal gets done.
And if he does drop that far in the rotation, how is he going to feel about it...

I think Romero will handle whatever is thrown at him. He went threw pitching hell last year and still made every start, kept working, wasn't a distraction to the club house, and was very professional. He might have been terrible, but I respect his work ethic and I'm pulling for him to make a bounce back.

The Mets would be wise to keep him, he's without question the Team Leader, he can win at least 15 Games, he can mentor the younger pitchers and if they decide to play billy ball instead of Yankee Ball, who knows what will happen, last years efforts to have their players swing for the fences was a major mistake the Park is built for pitching, defense and pushing the runners around the bases. The Park isn't moving, they got to have the guys they got play to their park and any future players fit the type of ball that will give them a home field advantage!!! Server and Kooz then bring on The Booze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Romero is your fifth starter, you have a pretty good team.
Johnson. Dickey. Romero. Morrow. Buerhle. Drabek. Happ.
Talent. Experience. Depth.
Playoffs?
