If we can get them to pay half, it would be shocking.

Vernon is only 33. He'll feel like a young kid on the Yankees.

Wells is aAL trade material only because of lack of defense, more teams would want Trumbo because he can play defense and his younger.

Total BS. Ridiculous. Yes, they Yankees need a RH OF, yes Wells is both, but those two dots will never connect..

The Yankees goal is to be competitive this year and then unload as much as $90 million in salaries at the end of the 2013 season. Which they can do with all the contracts that run out then. Wells is not an option. Jeesh!

Not so sure about that. He may be the big reason behind the salary dump and one year contracts they are giving out. If he is making $15 million this year, then you are only adding about $12 million more to resign him next year and beyond. Petitte or Kuroda or Youk money as examples.

It will not be about money if he is not resigned.

This is exactly what the Yankees need, another aging, overpaid player with declining skills.

He's 33 therefore it is in the Major League By-laws that he must sign with the Yankees within the next 10 years. May as well get it over with now...

I'm getting the same feeling you are, jgb. If Hamilton can commant $125 mil with all of his problems, Boras will want at least $150 mil for Cano if not more. That's a lot of scratch for a player who will be 31 years old at the end of next year.

I'm trying to think what that team looks like when all those contracts come off the books. It certainly does not look like a championship contender even if they re-sign Cano.

If the Yankees re-sign him, sadly, I believe it will be only to appease the fans, a la David Wright.

Wow! - I just checked - Wells is owed $42 million over the next two years. That is insane. Obviously the Angels are eating the great majority of that if they have any intention of moving Wells.

If I'm Cashman, and incredibly desperate, in fact so desperate that I'm seriously considering acquiring Vernon Wells, I'm offering to pick up no more than $5 mil in 2013 and $0.00 in 2014 when they are trying to get under $189 million.

I am still in shock that this is even a remote possibility.
