09:51 AM ET 12.16 | What started as trading R.A. Dickey for multiple prospects had become potentially something bigger yesterday. As first reported by The Post, the Mets were close to a seven-player deal with the Blue Jays, according to sources, that would send the NL Cy Young Award winner to Toronto for stud catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud. In addition, the Mets would send catcher Josh Thole and a non-elite prospect to the Blue Jays for their top pitching prospect, Noah Syndergaard, catcher John Buck and another non-elite prospect. Not a possibility for the Mets, according to an industry source, was receiving highly regarded outfielder Anthony Gose. The remaining hurdle yesterday, according to sources, was the Blue Jays receiving assurance Dickey, who will make $5 million next season in the final year of his contract, would sign a two-year extension.

The Jays had better hope all these moves pay off, and the players with the ridiculous contracts stay healthy and perform. If not the way they're gutting their farm system, this will set their franchise back 5-7 years.

The Jays will have to almost double his salary for the two years to get him to sign it and stay in the Canadian city to pitch for them.

You're too funny Mick.
Maybe the Blue Jays will feature pin stripes on their uniforms next year. Might as well go all the way, eh?

My gut tells me this will end badly for the Jays. Then again... I don't see a lot of good moves being made by AL East teams this winter. It seems like most have hit the reset button.

I would consider the Reyes / Josh Johnson / Buehrle deal a Mega Trade...
Actually more like a Mega Salary dump. A Mega Shafting perhaps :-)

No, probably not. If he was looking for $13 mil to play for a team that will probably be in the NL East basement for the next 2 years, i'm sure he won't mind $13 mil to play for a team that will contend.

Nah no need for pin stripes. I mean Boston doesn't have them after all...

Not really....when Wake was spinning, his best performances came when the wind was blowing out or in at Fenway.....made it dance...if the wind was coming from RF, it was a long afternoon....

Clearly no one on this thread has been watching Dickey pitch for the past 3 years. I support the trade but he's unhittable at his best, which was pretty darn often this past season. I'll enjoy watching the Jays dominate the AL East while awaiting my Mets to finally compete in 2014 and beyond.

Just goes to show you that you don't need to have pin stripes to spend cash in baseball. If this goes through, the Jays will dominate the AL East for several years to come. Enough of them missing the post season.
