Ridley shoulders blame for Pats' loss

07:47 AM ET 12.17 | There were plenty of mistakes to go around Sunday night in Foxboro, and perhaps the most glaring came from running back Stevan Ridley. "We played a good football team and you can???t beat a good football team playing like we did today, all the way around starting with myself," Ridley said. "You can???t have balls on the ground." ... Ridley had just 23 yards rushing on nine carries on the night. He lost a crucial third-quarter fumble and was on the field for just one snap the rest of the way. He has three fumbles in the last two games. "No one is harder on myself than me," Ridley said. "Nobody is more upset when I fumble than Stevan is. For me I just have to keep working. There is lot of football left to be played."

Ridley is so upset he's referring to himself in the third-person. Not a good sign.

Man, that was one wild game. I have to admit I was almost expecting NE to recover that onside kick.

Oh, how I wish.

Ridley wants to carry the blame but he just can't hold on to it.

Great Game, football like it should be played!!!

Awesome game. San Fran is the real deal. Belichick doesn't stay with backs who fumble no matter how bad they feel about it.

I was a bit surprised that the Pats went for it on 4th and 2 from there own 12 yd line.

I guess they didn't think they'd get the ball back if they punted. Questionable play call. Belichick needed to get some sleep...so he bailed.

Ridley's shoulder is the reason they were down 31-3 in the 3rd Quarter?

I wasn't too surprised. I actually expected it.

He took a similar gamble on a 4th-and-2 from his own 28-yard line with 2:08 to go against the Indianapolis Colts in 2009.

I believe it's actually the correct call to make.

With 2:28 left on the clock and only two timeouts left, San Fran only needs one or two first downs to run out the clock. If New England punts there is a realistic possibility that they don't even get the ball back. Meanwhile they have the #1 ranked offense in the NFL, had moment heavily weighing in their favor, and only needed two yards to go.

I went to bed after the first quarter. I had to get up early, and it didn't look to me like they were playing well enough to win.

I was right.

I also drove home from Maine, slow going, in that cold rain. It took full concentration to keep the car on the road. Maybe Ridley needs some kind of goo on his hands....

I wasn't surprised at the playcall, but the poor execution was a bit of a stunner.

Sticky towels don't seem to be helping the Chargers.

But they're still stuck with Norv...
