08:00 AM ET 12.17 | In preparation for the Rose Bowl, Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez met with reporters after practice Sunday. [Alvarez] was so frustrated by the departure of so many assistant football coaches last week, he considered being the head coach next season at one point, just to halt the exodus. "I was so emotionally zapped the other day -- with some of these guys, I think they all would have stayed -- that I was thinking about doing it myself, just to keep them," Alvarez said. ... "I did consider it. I felt so bad for a couple of those (assistants)." Thus, Alvarez will continue his search for a replacement for [Bret Bielema], and assured fans Sunday not to panic as he already has conducted two interviews and plans to interview one more candidate

The media will find at least 10 assistant coaches during bowl season who "really deserve" to be head coaches. Let the p|mping begin.

Pay the assistants a little Barry.

What do you expect Barry? Your new coach will probably let most of the current asst. coaches go to bring in his own guys. They would like to be employed with a paycheck. Can't blame them.

Today's story about the exciting Whiskey coach search indicates that one more candidate is to be interviewed. Apparantly two candidates have been interviewed. Assistants come and go; Alveraz is right to take his time to get the right guy.

Alvarez will be the HC next year

I hear Dooley is available.

But it wouldn't be a bad idea. It would give them a chance to take their time to find a good candidate and not pull in a guy like Dooley in a scramble.

Wants to be Bill Snider?

Can't blame assistants for moving for not only job security but MO $$$$$$$. Who knows if the new guy will keep any of them? I feel for the assistants that get washed out. HC have huge salaries and buy-outs. The assistants live w/o both

Doesn't matter what you do at Wisconsin. You'll still end up with tailor made schedules to guarantee yourself 5 wins a year against weak opponents. Face it, you will never win a national championship with the attitude "Our ONLY goal is to win the Rose Bowl" every year.

Barry needs to find a coach who will buy into his formula and run the program as it has been built over the past two decades.
