08:04 AM ET 12.17 | The would-be retirement office of Donald Fehr doesn't see much of the former Major League Baseball Players Assn. boss. "I knew Don was tired," said Michael Weiner, who succeeded Fehr as executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Assn. "I also knew Don was an intellectually curious guy, and I knew it wouldn't surprise me if he found something else to do." ... [Hockey] fans from the beaches of Southern California to the frozen ponds of Thunder Bay are sick and tired of the NHL lockout. Fehr appreciates the fan sentiment to just make a deal, but he has no intention of yielding to it. He breathes fire at the suggestion he is not acting in the best interests of hockey.

Perfect set of bookends for the threads today. Planning by the interns or mere coincidence?

In all seriousness, he was hired by the players to look out for them, not hired by fans to look out for us. Maybe in all this they should realize that while Gary works for the owners, and Donald works for the players, maybe someone should be overseeing everyone. I always thought that was the commisioner, but obviously that is not the case.
New Heirarchy is in order. Have a true commisioner and have an NHLPA and a NHLOA both report directly to him.

Depending on what you eat... Normally, yes, consider the source though, it's may be a mutation.

wouldn't it be nice to have a commish that understands that he has a responsibility towards the game in addition to his mandate as representative of the owners. It seems that all the other gm's understand this except for Bettman, and it is not as if I'd give high marks to any of the other gms...

I am seriously sorry I read the first part of this article, and not understanding what the hell was being said I clicked to read the full article to see that it still had very little to do with the title SI gave this blog... "Fehr not afraid of fan anger."
What a total waste of time on my part. I will make a note to never read anything this guy writes again.
